About the role:
We are seeking multiple Senior Network Operations Engineers to join a global leader in mission-critical technology for public safety, government agencies, and enterprise security, supporting customers across Energy & Natural Resources, and Government.

These positions are hands-on operation and sustainment of live Motorola radio networks, with the servers and voice systems at the centre of it. You’ll administer and patch Linux, Windows and Active Directory servers, own the voice logging systems that record every call, and support the IP and audio networking, transmission, dispatch consoles, radio core and network management systems. You’ll need to understand how these layers work as one system and bring real Motorola or equivalent radio experience to these SME-level positions.

You will be the senior technical escalation point for the network operations centre (NOCC) and field teams. When a fault is complex or systemic, you find the root cause and fix it.
  • Brisbane based
  • Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with an afterhours on call roster
  • Permanent full-time or long-term contract opportunities available
    • Contract: $715/day incl. super (roughly $172k annual package based on 48 working weeks)
    • Permanent: up to $145k + super, depending on skill and experience
What you'll be doing:
Operations & Escalation
  • Act as the Level 3 escalation point for NOCC staff and field engineers on complex or systemic faults
  • Own incidents through to root cause and resolution, and escalate customer-impacting issues to engineering with clear evidence
  • Participate in the after-hours on-call roster and support after-hours planned maintenance and upgrades
Systems & Network
  • Administer and patch the Linux servers (Red Hat preferred) that the radio network depends on: patching in maintenance windows, health monitoring, storage and scripting
  • Own the voice logging systems: administer and fault find the recorders, and keep them integrated with the radio core and dispatch consoles
  • Manage recorder storage, backup, restore, redundancy and retention, and handle audio retrieval and export for investigations
  • Support the VoIP and audio-over-IP networking behind the recordings (SIP/RTP, VLANs, QoS and time sync)
  • Support and maintain Motorola radio networks (P25, Dimetra, MOTOTRBO), including central and remote sites, network management systems and dispatch consoles
  • Administer the Windows Server, Active Directory and server hardware that the radio network depends on
  • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot IP networks, LAN/WAN, routers, switches and firewalls
  • Support the microwave and MUX transmission that carries radio services, and understand how it affects the system end to end
Engineering & Delivery
  • Support upgrades, integration, testing and certification activities
  • Make sure installations and configurations meet documentation and quality standards, and keep as-built documentation current
  • Develop procedures and work instructions for operations and support teams
  • Work with operations, field engineers, project teams, customers and vendors, and represent operational engineering in vendor performance issues
  • Travel to customer sites as required
What you'll need to be successful in the role:
Required
  • Full Australian working rights (no relocation assistance or visa sponsorship)
  • 3+ years supporting or engineering radio systems in an operations, sustainment or integration role (Motorola ASTRO 25 P25, Dimetra or MOTOTRBO preferred, equivalent radio platforms considered)
  • Proven experience supporting complex, multi-site communications systems
  • Level 3 or SME experience finding root cause and owning complex faults through to resolution
  • ITIL-aligned discipline on mission-critical systems: ticketing, documentation, procedures, change control and escalating systemic issues
  • Linux server administration and patching (Red Hat preferred)
  • Windows Server and Active Directory administration
  • Hands-on experience with voice logging systems (such as NICE): administering recorders, fault finding, integration with the radio core and dispatch consoles, and audio retrieval and export
  • Server hardware and virtualisation experience (HP and VMware preferred)
  • Backup, restore and redundancy experience, including recorder storage and retention
  • Strong IP networking for audio: VLANs, QoS, SIP/RTP and time synchronisation
Highly desirable
  • Tertiary qualification in electronics, computer systems or a related field (or equivalent industry experience)
  • Experience in a NOCC or communications operations environment
  • IT network design or microwave and MUX distribution experience
  • Cisco and/or Juniper experience, with certifications
  • Hands-on experience with Motorola Provisioning Manager, UNC and UEM
  • MCC7500 console experience
  • Public safety grade encryption and key management
  • Firewalls, intrusion detection and network security
  • Depth across Motorola P25, Dimetra or MOTOTRBO
Is this you?
This role suits Radio & Communications Engineers who also manage servers, Linux and voice logging systems, and IT Network Engineers who have 3+ years supporting radio systems. Unfortunately, you won’t be the right fit if you are an IT administrator with no radio exposure, or a radio field technician without server and network operations experience.

How to Apply:
If you think this role could be a good fit for your experience, I’d be keen to hear from you. Send through your CV or click Apply, and let’s chat.
