Join the Technology & Autonomy Division at a global Tier 1 Mining & Energy organisation, to support their bespoke fleet management system (FMS), ensuring the applications uptime, reliability and performance.
Act as the critical technical bridge between product development teams and mine site operations. You will look after the servers, databases and core services behind the system, making sure it is available around the clock, while working directly with everyone from operators through to site leadership. You'll troubleshoot complex backend issues, run software deployments and releases, and drive continuous improvement in how the system performs.
This opportunity is particularly suited to a Linux or DevOps focused support engineer with mining or heavy industry experience, who is comfortable supporting mission critical production systems and can explain technical issues clearly to non-technical people.
- 12 month contract + extensions
- Up to $75/hr + Super, depending on experience
- This is currently a site-based role, but will soon transition back to a Perth operations environment
- Pilbara site: 8 days on, 6 off B2B 7 nights on, 7 off. 12 hour shifts.
- Perth based (once the team transitions back to CBD office): 8/8 roster of 4 days, 4 nights, 8 off. 12 hour shifts.
- Work with cutting edge mining technology alongside product, software and platform engineering teams
- Manage and maintain the technical infrastructure of the fleet management system, including servers, virtual machines, databases and core services.
- Monitor system performance using Grafana dashboards, identify bottlenecks and implement improvements.
- Deploy software releases using Octopus Deploy and manage artifact repositories through Artifactory.
- Perform proactive maintenance, including service restarts, cache management and preventive measures to avoid system degradation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex backend issues such as database performance problems, memory leaks and service failures, using SSH and command line tools.
- Configure and maintain application endpoints, including field hardware and workstations.
- Manage technical integrations with OEM systems and external platforms.
- Develop automation scripts, deployment procedures and custom tools to reduce manual work.
- Implement monitoring, alerting and automated response procedures for critical system events.
- Coordinate deployments and system changes during maintenance windows with minimal disruption to mining operations.
- Manage backup, disaster recovery and high availability solutions.
- Troubleshoot connectivity and integration issues at protocol level, and coordinate with vendors on updates, patches and escalated issues.
- Maintain technical documentation, including runbooks, integration specifications, network diagrams and troubleshooting procedures.

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field, or a trade qualification or equivalent mining technology experience.
- 2+ years in a technical role within mining, resources or heavy industry, including experience in remote site environments, ideally supporting mining technology systems (FMS, dispatch, automation)
- Hands-on Linux system administration (RHEL, Ubuntu or CentOS).
- Scripting experience in Python (basic), Bash or PowerShell, plus SQL.
- Solid TCP/IP networking fundamentals and troubleshooting skills, with experience in industrial networks and communications systems.
- Experience with configuration management and deployment tools such as Octopus Deploy or Ansible, and Docker containers (Swarm or OpenShift).
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work independently and explain technical issues to engineers, vendors and site personnel.
- Experience with the following will be highly regarded:
- Fleet management systems (MineStar, FrontRunner, Modular Mining)
- Autonomous haulage systems
- OT/IT cybersecurity
- Node JS/React
- Certifications such as CCNA, Red Hat or VMware
