FIFO Communications Technician

About the role:
Join a rapidly growing WA-based leader in autonomous mining technology and communications systems, partnering with some of the nation’s largest mining clients.

As a Communications Technician, you’ll have a key role in installing, maintaining, and supporting cutting-edge autonomous and mine communication systems across multiple sites.
  • WA-owned & nationally operated mining technology specialist
  • Initial 12-month contract to roll or convert to FTE
  • 8:6 & 7:7 Rosters – days and nights – 12 hour shifts
  • Nationwide projects – FIFO from Perth
  • $65–$70 per hour + super
  • All travel, accommodation, meals, and PPE provided

What you’ll be doing:
  • Install, terminate, and test fibre optic and copper communication systems across mine sites
  • Support and maintain autonomous fleet management and network communication products
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair communication hardware and system faults
  • Interpret electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Collaborate closely with Auto Electricians, Engineers, and AHS Supervisors to ensure seamless system integration
  • Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards, as well as Australian regulatory requirements
  • Provide on-site technical support and contribute to the commissioning of autonomous systems
  • Participate in night and day shifts as required by project schedules

What you’ll need to be successful in the role:
  • ACMA Open Cabling Licence with Fibre Endorsement (essential)
  • Trade qualification in Communications Technology, Auto Electrical, or similar discipline
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in communications or autonomous mining environments
  • Experience working with Caterpillar, Liebherr, or Flanders technology products (highly regarded)
  • Strong understanding of network cabling, communications infrastructure, and autonomous systems
  • Ability to interpret and work from detailed technical drawings and specifications
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, safety-focused attitude
  • Australian working rights – no sponsorship or relocation available
