An opportunity exists for an experienced Electrical Reliability Engineer to join a major mining operator’s Cloudbreak OPF Engineering & Reliability team. This role will focus on improving the reliability, availability and performance of electrical assets across a large-scale operating processing plant, with a strong emphasis on reducing recurring equipment failures and transitioning from reactive breakdown maintenance to proactive, preventative maintenance strategies.
You will be responsible for investigating electrical failure modes, developing maintenance strategies and implementing practical engineering solutions to improve long-term asset performance. This is a predominantly reliability-focused position, with approximately 80% reliability engineering and 20% site support, project and design activities.
- Initial 6-month contract based at Cloudbreak, WA, with potential for extension
- $65/hr + super, with flexibility for the right candidate
- 8:6 FIFO roster, site-based position
- Focus on electrical reliability, preventative maintenance and defect elimination
- Work across motors, VSDs, MCCs, transformers, switchboards and processing plant infrastructure
- Opportunity to make a direct impact on plant availability, maintenance costs and operational performance
What you’ll be doing:
- Provide electrical engineering and reliability support across the operating processing plant
- Investigate recurring electrical equipment failures and identify opportunities to improve asset performance
- Apply Root Cause Analysis (RCA), FMEA/FMECA and defect elimination methodologies
- Develop and optimise preventative, predictive and periodic maintenance strategies
- Identify bad-actor equipment and implement practical solutions to prevent recurring failures
- Review maintenance plans, equipment criticality and condition monitoring requirements
- Support reliability improvement initiatives across motors, VSDs, MCCs, transformers and switchrooms
- Provide engineering support across LV distribution systems, 415V and 690V equipment, with exposure to higher-voltage systems
- Develop scopes of work, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical engineering documentation
- Support minor electrical projects, design reviews, commissioning and operational requirements
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, engineering and project teams to improve plant reliability
- Identify opportunities to reduce equipment downtime, maintenance costs and reactive breakdown work
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience as an Electrical Engineer within mining, mineral processing, heavy industry, oil & gas or manufacturing
- Strong experience in electrical reliability and maintenance engineering
- Experience developing and improving preventative or periodic maintenance strategies
- Proven ability to investigate recurring electrical failures and implement long-term solutions
- Understanding of Root Cause Analysis (RCA), FMEA/FMECA and defect elimination
- Experience with LV electrical systems, particularly 415V and/or 690V
- Experience working with motors, VSDs/VFDs, MCCs, transformers, switchboards and associated electrical equipment
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Experience developing engineering scopes of work and technical documentation
- Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and commercial electrical systems
- Current WA C-Class Driver’s Licence
- Strong communication, planning and stakeholder management skills
- Mining or mineral processing experience highly regarded, particularly within iron ore or fixed plant environments
- Exposure to 11kV, 22kV and/or 33kV systems, condition monitoring, CMMS/SAP or reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) advantageous
- Instrumentation, PLC, HV switching and commissioning experience advantageous
