About the project:

The role supports an established Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) development program within our clients' Autonomy team.
The program is a mature Research & Development initiative focused on advancing autonomous mining technology, system integration, and operational reliability. Working alongside their key technology partner, the team continues to enhance autonomous solutions across heavy mobile equipment and remote mining environments.

About the role:

An opportunity exists for an experienced Field Engineer to join a leading Autonomy team supporting the ongoing development, testing, and verification of AHS technology at a major Western Australian mining operation.

This role will focus on executing field testing activities, system integration verification, fault diagnosis, and performance validation across complex autonomous mining systems. Working closely with engineering teams, operations personnel, and OEM technology partners, you will play a key role in ensuring autonomous systems are safe, reliable, and ready for operational deployment.

You will be responsible for conducting hands-on testing across autonomous vehicle systems, analysing system performance, troubleshooting hardware and software integration issues, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within an established autonomy program.
  • 6-month contract based in the Pilbara with strong extension potential based on performance
  • $85/hr + applicable conditions
  • 8:6 day shift roster
  • Work within an established AHS program operating for 5+ years
  • Support cutting-edge autonomous mining technology development alongside OEM partners
What you’ll be doing:
  • Execute field testing activities to verify Autonomous Haulage System functionality, performance, and system readiness
  • Conduct system integration testing across autonomous vehicle systems including navigation, obstacle detection, emergency systems, and vehicle controls
  • Perform calibration and verification activities across integrated systems including GNSS, CAN bus, sensors, steering, and braking systems
  • Investigate and diagnose hardware/software integration issues across complex autonomous platforms
  • Collect, analyse, and document test data, defects, results, and system performance outcomes
  • Support regression, reliability, performance, and experimental testing activities
  • Identify potential risks within integrated systems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with engineering teams, technical specialists, operations personnel, and OEM partners to resolve technical challenges
  • Provide detailed reporting on test outcomes, defects, and system readiness for further development activities
What you’ll need to be successful in the role:
  • Full Australian working rights - this position offers no form of Visa sponsorship or relocation assistance
  • Experience working within field testing, system testing, integration testing, or verification engineering environments
  • Strong understanding of complex engineering systems involving hardware and software integration
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues across integrated systems and identifying root causes
  • Understanding of autonomous systems, robotics, heavy vehicles, mining technology, or similar industries
  • Strong Linux command line skills
  • Experience working with technical documentation, test evidence gathering, and test management processes
  • Ability to interpret technical data, analyse results, and communicate findings clearly
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently within remote site environments
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
Desirable experience:
  • Previous experience working with Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS)
  • Experience with Liebherr autonomous technology or similar OEM platforms
  • Mining site experience, particularly within remote operations
  • Background in robotics, autonomous vehicles, defence systems, automotive technology, or other complex automated environments
  • Experience with vehicle control systems, sensors, GNSS, CAN bus, or industrial communication systems
  • Familiarity with traceability, defect management, and verification processes
