This ages so well and is probably the most succinct way I like to explain what the essence of recruitment is. Having had what seems like a million different jobs already, I have always tried to understand my jobs purpose and how it effects other people. Engagement is such a key part of this role and I am lucky to have understood and been guided by leaders who put it at the forefront of everything they do (In one case it was even in the company name!)
Having come from a background of local government within sports and health, engagement within your local community was essential to help break down barriers to participation and inclusion, just purely listening and understanding what the hindrance alone can make a difference. In the context of recruitment, listening to what the candidate or client wants, or needs, is one thing, understanding the wider context and how you can guide and consult them allows you to engage with them proactively.
Proactive engagement I believe makes you a better recruiter, it allows you to be a master of sifting through a myriad of networks and requirements to help fill a role or help guide someone in pursuing a career or finding their next superstar.
Despite working at Verse Group for a short period of time, their commitment to proper proactive engagement is led from the front and permeates throughout the company. Having decided to take the ever-daunting decision to move companies, being allowed to support both candidates and clients effectively and ethically has made the transition a cinch.
